DESCRIPTION: APW - South Bend, Grade 295, 21J, 16S, gold-filled OF display case, white enamel DS Runic style dial with "Edwin Lindsey" in place of hour numerals, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, sunburst pattern nickel damascene, s#480155. This watch, like the preceding lot, features an interesting custom dial marked to one of a pair of brothers that were prominent South Bend residents. Edwin K. Lindsey was the older of these two brothers, and with cursory research we have not found a link between Edwin and the South Bend Watch Co. but further investigation for the possibility of such a connection would be worthy of additional research. Please see our photos for an announcement of Edwin's death, found in the June 8th, 1926 edition of "The South Bend Tribune."
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright plates with scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, some minor oxide to steelwork; dial with chip at center hole, scattered hls, few scattered small nicks to center section; fine mismatched hands; case with internal serial numbers that are open to interpretation ("45" stamped within band, corresponding Roman numerals "IIII" and "V" scribed within bezel, and seemingly corresponding Roman numerals "IIII" and "V" scribed within rear but with an additional "X" scribed within rear which adds a dose of ambiguity to whether or not they indeed match), case shows light wear, scattered nicks and dings, area of finish bubbling to band bottom, few spot of wear to brass to bezel edge and one to pendant front, thin partial rings of wear to brass to rear and bezel edges; tight slightly brassy bow, crown shows ample wear and is missing portions of its jacket (outer layer); good glass crystals.
ESTIMATE: $400 - $700
